The IDI serves as a tool for evaluating an individual's capacity to communicate across perceived cultural differences, assessing their intercultural competence within specific contexts. It offers insights into how our personal experiences shape our cultural perspectives and ability to navigate diverse interactions.
I extend the use of the IDI by embedding it within the framework of racial equity and power dynamics, explicitly addressing the distribution and influence of power based on socially constructed identities and various positionalities.
An IDI Qualified Administrator (QA) is someone trained and certified to facilitate group and individual IDI debriefs and coaching sessions, as well as follow-up training related to the IDI. We recognize the limitations of quantitative tools in assessing multifaceted individuals and aim to use the IDI solely to illuminate the influence of our lived experiences on our cultural perspectives.
Individual Assessment and Debrief: Every individual who completes the IDI receives a 1-2 hour debrief from a Qualified Administrator.
Group Assessment and Debrief: Teams undergoing the IDI receive a group profile. Each group receives a tailored debrief explaining the IDI, its background, validity, and potential applications based on their specific needs and preferences.
Continued Facilitation and Coaching: Utilizing the IDI results, ongoing facilitation and coaching aim to enhance a group's or individual's intercultural competence.
Qualified Administrator Training & Coaching: A workshop series designed for QAs interested in leveraging the IDI for racial equity initiatives.
