Pronouns: she/they/ella/elle/we/us
Through facilitation of content, critical reflection and intergroup dialogue, I strive to co-create spaces that inspire actualization, collaboration, and the creation of equitable organizational cultures – including structures, systems, and processes. The topics and points of discourse raised are informed by socio-historical context, as well as participatory storytelling that centers self-exploration, healing, and liberation.
Vocationally, I’ve worked as an Intercultural Educator for the past 16 years and an Institutional and Educational Equity Facilitator, Consultant, and Coach for the past 8 years. Initially, my professional focus was within the field of education (Early Education, K12 and Higher Ed) - specifically intercultural education and educational equity - and the nonprofit sector. About 5 years ago, I expanded my focus to include organizational equitable cultures. In 2019, I co-founded a consulting group based out of Portland, OR (Asana/López Jones) that ended up merging with the Vancouver, WA-based Cultural Coaching Solutions, LLC. Previous to that, I served as a Co-Executive Director, the Director of Internal Equity, and the Educational Equity Program Manager with Campus Compact of Oregon. In these roles, I ran a statewide critical mentorship program for BIPoC and low-income youth, and supported the initiation of the organizational racial equity roadmap & strategic planning process that worked to institute organizational and board accountability processes and policies. I had moved to Portland, Oregon from Seattle in 2013 to pursue my M.A. in International Development & Service and afterward ended up at the City of Portland, Bureau of Development Services, where I supported the launch of the citywide Racial Equity Roadmap project. Additionally, I am a Qualified Administrator with the Intercultural Development Inventory (IDI, LLC) and have taught as a professor with Portland Underground Graduate School (PUGS) and Marylhurst University in Lake Oswego, OR (now closed).
I come from a long lineage of ancestors whose wisdom, love, fear, sweat, tears, laughter and joy is with me every breath I take. live in a Black Multi-Cultural Body of Culture. Culturally and racially, I identify as Black, Afro-Xicana, Afro-Latina, Indigenous. Socially, I am labeled as bi-racial. With respect to my gender, I identify as a cis-gender woman, Femme and Queer. My pronouns are she/her, they/them, ella, and we/us. I am a U.S. citizen and my work focuses mainly on U.S. culture and the Black and Indigenous diaspora(s). In my work, I center Black, Indigenous, and bodies of culture and employ anti-racist and racial equity lenses throughout my process. Currently, I am continuing my education as a cultural somatics practitioner, which focuses on racialized and systemic intergenerational/historic trauma healing and integration. I myself am constantly processing trauma born from racial and social oppression. So far on this journey, I've completed the Embodied Social Justice certificate program (a somatic approach to social justice work) through Transformative Change, as well as the Integrative Somatic Trauma Therapy certificate program through The Embody Lab; and I'm currently participating in the Communal Consultations for Somatic Abolitionists program with Resmaa Manakem. That said, my biggest teacher has been my own lived experience. And as we get to know each other, I’m sure we will share stories of our lives and lived experiences.
I hold a Bachelor of Arts in Environmental Analysis: Human Behavior from Pomona College in Claremont, CA and an inter-collegiate Master of Arts in International Development and Service with focuses in Intercultural Communication and Intercultural Education (from Concordia University - Portland, Siena Italian Studies, and University of San Francisco - Quito & Galapagos).
I look forward to working with you, holistically, heartfully, and intentionally.
